Why study abroad?

Sometimes the most opportune time to go abroad is as a college student. Such an opportunity will give you life long memories as well as life lessons. As you experience a new culture, you will also learn some things about yourself along the way and expand your view of the world.

When you travel with a group, you will benefit from the companionship of others that are experiencing the same adventure. This common understanding will give you a chance to meet new people and open doors to new friendships along the way. Meeting new people will open up new networks, which will enhance your opportunities for employment once you graduate.

The experience abroad not only looks good on your resume, but it allows you a chance to learn a new culture first hand. It may even help you learn a new language. Being immersed in a new culture may influence your perception of life and may even impact your value and belief system.

Check with your university early to see what travel abroad programs are available. Being able to plan early will help you decide if you want to go for a summer trip or a full semester. Ask questions to find out if you can earn academic credit while you area away. If you can your financial aid may help cover the costs.

Enjoy the opportunity to travel aboard, it is well worth the time and will open up new doors for you. This may be the only chance in your lifetime to travel out of the country. If you talk to others who have done so, they can share their experiences and give you some guidance in selecting a program that is right for you.

As always, contact your university to determine what is available.
